What to see and do in the Cape

Wine routing:

Stellenbosch is 30 minutes away and then further Franschhoek and Paarl are the Wine Valleys closest to Apricot Gardens. The many, many wineries are reached by scenic routes with lots to see on the way.

Cape Town, Table Mountain and the Waterfront:

It is a 45 minute drive in to the city. The V & A Waterfront is a great place to shop, eat and explore the harbour and aquarium or take a boat trip to Robben Island. Table Mountain is the place to go for top of the world views and walks. From the city there are 2 routes along the Peninsula to Cape Point, one goes along the coast and the other on the inner side of the mountain range past Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden.

Gordons Bay and the Coastal Road:

Gordon's Bay has Bikini Beach, which is protected from the wind and safe for swimming. This seaside resort has beachfront cafes, pubs and restaurants. The magnificent Coastal Road (R44) starts here and winds around the cliffs via Kogelbaai toward Kleinmond and Hermanus. The Helderberg and Hottentots Holland Mountains have many hiking trails and walks; there is also the Helderberg Nature Reserve.

Whale watching and Hermanus:

Every year between July and November, Whales come to this area to breed. Hermanus has always been a popular holiday destination with great beaches, seaside shopping and restaurants. There is a brilliant cliff walk with lots of viewing spots, the Whales and their calves often come in very close.
